The Gap Starts Before Summer

And this is the part the field does not like to say out loud: good intentions are not expertise. Having gone to college yourself does not make you a college access expert. Having helped your own son or daughter through the process does not make you one either. This is skilled, specialized work with real consequences for young people's lives, and we owe our scholars people who are genuinely equipped to do it. When an organization treats advising as something any caring adult can pick up, the scholars who pay the price are the ones who could least afford a weak list.
